The implementation has always been overly clunky however, either too random to make use of - or creating too much of a micro hell to even bother. The lore continued on past this era eventually opening space back up to normal FTL travel, but I think this concept could be refined down into a workable solution!įor my idea below, i think its important to mention that a few games that make use of star lanes, including MoO3 have tried to implement a system where new space lanes can be created between systems over the course of a game opening up new routes through the stars and breaking choke points. Some sectors of space where almost unaffected while others were completely shut down. Basically space became unstable for FTL travel, akin to the hyperspace flux we all know of from the GNNs diabolical dice rolls of scary RNG events, except that it was sporadic and not exactly galaxy wide. The monstrous back story attached to MoO3 setup the perfect universe explaining how both could work. As a concept the lore and science behind it doesn't really matter, what does matter is that being MoO fans and from looking at the posts on this thread its obvious that star lanes aint enough for us, we gotta use deep space too!
Star ruler 2 ftl series#
The lanes could be some natural phenomenon perhaps due to gravity between stars or they could be of an artificial origin, created by some ancient long dead race (a cliche the MoO series helped create!). My general opinion is that star lanes are a must as they keep that desirable choke point mechanic in place. Thats what many games do, including MoO3 which could have been epic if the game wasn't so rushed. To be honest, i think the game must feature both star lanes and deep space travel.
